Islamabad, Mar 29 (ANI): The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has said it is considering Afghanistan as a more likely choice for a cricket tour, rather than Pakistan.
The MCC has played its part in supporting Afghan cricket by helping provide pitches in Kabul, and organising fixtures against the national side and coaching players.
"I'm going to Afghanistan to look at Kabul and the cricket pitches we have put in," The BBC quoted MCC President Phillip Hodson, as saying.
"Then I will go to Lahore as a private citizen. I think there's much more chance of taking a team to Afghanistan than there is to Pakistan. I think we could do something in Afghanistan, and I don't think it will be long away," he added.
Foreign teams have not toured Pakistan since gunmen attacked the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in March 2009, killing six police officers and a van driver.
Earlier this week, the PCB said that Pakistan had "a couple of other options" if Bangladesh's national team fails to receive government clearance to tour next month because of security concerns.
"I don't want to disclose the names of the countries, but we are in touch with at least two (cricket) boards," Ashraf said, adding: "If Bangladesh says no, we have a couple of other options too."
Bangladesh's cricket board had sent a security report on Pakistan to its government after President Mustafa Kamal led a nine-member delegation to the country earlier this month.
Although Kamal had said before leaving Pakistan that he was satisfied with the security arrangements, the Bangladesh government has not given its consent to it as of now.
"I talked to him (Mustafa Kamal) in Bangladesh during the Asia Cup and he told me he was committed, but I will make a formal announcement after the security report is cleared by his government," Ashraf said. (ANI)
