Reports of bugging in South Block not true: Defence Ministry

New Delhi , Fri, 02 Mar 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Mar 2 (ANI): The Defence Ministry on Thursday denied reports of ministry being monitored by bugging devices by a section of media, saying routine checks are conducted in the offices of defence minister and other officers in South Block.

The ministry further said that nothing has been found in these checks so far.

Earlier in the day, media had reported Intelligence Bureau officials probing a possible bugging incident of Defence Minister A K Antony's office.

It was reported that the incident came to the notice of the ministry on February 16 after which Defence Secretary Shashikant Sharma asked the IB to conduct an investigation.

In June last year, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had also sought for an inquiry after traces of adhesives were found at several places in his office in September 2010, leading to suspicion that someone was trying to spy on activities taking place inside his office. (ANI)
