Thiruvananthapuram/New Delhi, Feb.22 (ANI): Italy's Consul General met Kerala's Director General of Police Jacob Punnoose on Wednesday and requested him to make proper arrangements in jail for the two Italian Marines who have been charged with the killing of two Kerala fishermen last week.
The Italian team reiterated the need for a joint investigation, but the Kerala police chief said the court will decide.
The Kerala High Court is also expected to take up the petition by the widow of one of the victims demanding compensation of one crore rupees and also detention of the Italian ship.
A separate PIL seeking compensation for the families of the fishermen has also been filed.
Kerala Police is likely to carry out search operations on the Italian ship after obtaining a search warrant from the chief judicial magistrate's court.
A five-member Italian delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Staffan De Mistura met External Affairs and Home Ministry officials in Delhi to secure the release of the two naval officers.
Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi will visit the country on February 29 to take the dialogue forward. (ANI)
