New Delhi, Feb.20 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will meet the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, on Wednesday in connection with the proposed central government financial package for her state.
Reports said that apart from the financial package, Banerjee could also discuss the controversy surrounding the proposed establishment of a National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC). Banerjee is among eight chief ministers who have opposed the NCTC, as they believe it will compromise the federal structure that India represents, and take away some of the state governments key powers on matters of law and order.
With the Budget session of Parliament taking place in the middle of March, the UPA would like to avoid an impasse with Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress, which has 19 Members of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, the second largest contribution of lawmakers in the UPA combine. (ANI)
