London, Feb 18(ANI): Manchester City defender Micah Richards believes that racists must not be allowed to win after his teammate Mario Balotelli suffered sick racist chants from the Porto fans during their Europa League first-round match.
Manchester City has launched an official complaint with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) in this matter.
Richards is glad that Balotelli had the last laugh after City won the match 2-1 and is in a strong position to move into the next round of the Europa League.
"It's not what we want to hear. If people do that, it's up to them. We'll get on with our job. It's not nice to hear and we can't do anything about it as players," The Sun quoted Richards, as saying. But it was great for Mario that he played a big part in the first goal," he said.
Richards, who closed down his Twitter account sometime back after facing racist abuse feels racism is less in England.
"There will always be people who have a certain opinion of people. In English football, it's been outstanding. There have been a couple of cases of late that we're not happy about. But since I've been playing, when I was 17, I've not really heard too much racism at all," he said.
"There will be incidents, but as long as they are sorted and dealt with in the right manner, we've just got to move forward," he added. (ANI)
