London, Feb 18 (ANI): Merely a few days after Adele won a raft of Grammy awards, which sealed her status as a global pop star, her father has spoken of his torment over their rift days.
Mark Evans, who is a plumber and a recovering alcoholic, told how he was overcome with emotion while watching the Los Angeles ceremony on television.
"When she sings, it's so beautiful but it brings back too many memories. It's too painful," the Daily mail quoted him as telling the Daily Mail.
"There's so much regret on my part - regret that I wasn't a better father to her. I let her down badly, and I wish I could turn the clock back and do things differently, he said.
The 23-year-old singer told a US interviewer that if she ever saw her father again she would "spit in his face" and that he would never hear from her again.
"I can't believe she said that. It's devastating. I don't know where it's come from," he said.
The 50-year-old described how he and the singer's mother Penny Adkins "drifted apart" when their daughter was two years old, and he returned home to Wales, where he now lives in Bridgend.
The couple had been living in Tottenham. Evans said that after he left he had sent money when he could and that he maintained an "amicable" relationship with his daughter and her mother and that they would visit him in Wales.
However, he admitted that alcoholism had taken over his life following the death of his father from bowel cancer.
"I hit the booze.
"I got wrapped up in myself. I wasn't there for her. The alcohol affected my relationship with Adele. I regret it, and I always will," he added. (ANI)
