New Delhi, Jan.26 (ANI): Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Thursday became the fourth Asian leader to attend India's Republic Day parade in the past four years.
The other three Asian leaders to have attended the Republic Day celebrations are Kazakistan President Nursultan Nazarbayev in 2009, South Korean President Lee Myung Bak in 2010 and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in 2011.
Shinawatra is the third woman leader to be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations in the last 63 years.
Queen Elizabeth II was the chief guest in 1961, while Sri Lankan Prime Minister Srimavo Bandaranaike graced the occasion in 1974.
Shinawatra, a 44-year old former businesswoman, is known for her glamour quotient.
She accompanied President Pratibha Devisingh Patil to venue of the parade and was received by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
She greeted guests in the VVIP enclosure with a Namaste before settling down in the bulletproof enclosure.
During the parade, she chatted with President Patil. (ANI)
