Melbourne, Jan 22(ANI): Veteran Australian batsman Mike Hussey has indicated his desire to be a part of the squad for the West Indies tour saying he has not yet thought about retiring from international cricket.
Hussey,36, believes that he can still contribute to help Australia re- emerge as the World No 1 Test team and added that he has always been brought up on the philosophy that young players need to earn the berth in the national team.
"I still feel mentally wanting to turn up for training and mentally keen for the battle out in the middle so from that point of view, I'm definitely thinking of continuing on. I'd love to go to the West Indies. The culture I was always brought up in is the next generation have to earn their right to play for Australia," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Hussey, as saying.
"I still feel like I've got a big role to play in the team with experience to help some of the younger members of the team. Plus I still feel like I can contribute to Australia working their way back to where we want to be which is the No.1 team in the world," he added.
His comments came ahead of the Adelaide Test against India, which is Australia's last Test at home in the current season.
Hussey said he had seen no indications from Ricky Ponting and wicketkeeper- batsman Brad Haddin that they were contemplating retirement.
Hussey has averaged 84.33 so far in the ongoing Test series against India. (ANI)
