New Delhi, Jan 15 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Saturday granted bail to another Commonwealth Games (CWG) Organising Committee (OC) official Sanjay Mahendroo after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) failed to file any chargesheet against him.
He was arrested on January 15 in the case of alleged financial bunglings in holding the Queen Baton's Relay in London in 2009.
Mahendroo got a reprieve after the CBI prosecutor informed the court that the investigating agency cannot file the chargesheet within the stipulated 60 days prescribed under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPc).
As per the CrPC, an undertrial becomes entitled for the grant of bail if the investigating agency fails to file a chargesheet within two months of his arrest.
The court, however, deferred the hearing on the bail plea of co-accused M Jayachandran in the case till January 17.
Earlier on Friday, the court granted bail to another official T S Darbari on the grounds that the CBI did not file any chargesheet against him.
The CBI arrested Darbari, a close aide of OC chief Suresh Kalmadi, on November 15, over his alleged role into the financial irregularities case pertaining to the 2010 Games.
The CBI had registered two cases in connection with contracts awarded to London-based A M Films and AM Car and Van Hire Limited at exorbitant rates.
The case was registered under different Sections of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act. (ANI)
