Pak's holding of Quaid-e-Azam final under lights may revolutionize Test cricket: Miandad

Karachi, Thu, 13 Jan 2011 ANI

Karachi, Jan 13(ANI): Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Director General Javed Miandad believes that Test cricket could be headed for a revolution if the experiment to hold the final match of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in the 'day and night' format is successful.

The PCB has decided to hold the final Test between Habib Bank Limited (HBL) and Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) from January 13 to 17 under lights with the use of coloured balls.

"It is an experiment we have decided to take to make our contribution to world cricket because other countries are also experimenting with playing the longer version of the game under lights and with coloured balls," the Daily Times quoted Miandad, as saying.

It is the first time that a first class match is being held under lights in Pakistan's cricket history.

"For us, this experiment is very important because if it is successful in attracting people to the stadium and creating over all interest, it would allow us to restructure our domestic cricket," said Miandad.

Miandad, who is also Pakistan cricket team's batting consultant, said that if the experiment were successful, it would also have an impact on the future format of Test cricket at the international stage.

"It is a fact that the ICC is also working on the possibility of having day and night Test matches," he stated.

A veteran of 124 Tests, Miandad noted that since the Twenty20 format of the game had shaken the foundation of One-day Internationals (ODIs) and Test cricket, it was imperative to make the five-day game more receptive and interesting for the spectators and audiences. (ANI)
