New Delhi , Tue, 11 Jan 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Jan 11 (ANI): The Supreme Court will conduct a final hearing of the 1993 Mumbai blasts case on March 29.

A decision to this effect was taken on Tuesday after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told the apex court that a few Marathi documents were to be translated into English, and that it needed six weeks time to do so.

The Court had to hear appeals from 179 accused who challenged their conviction and also hear the CBI cases challenging the acquittal of 48 persons.

The special TADA court had convicted 100 people in the Mumbai blasts case.

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt was sentenced to six years in jail under the Arms Act, but was exonerated for terror offences under the stringent TADA act.

The court has thus far recorded more than 13,000 pages of oral evidence, more than 7,000 pages of documentary evidence and secured 135 confessions and 686 witness statements.

Separate trials of Abu Salem, Riyaz Siddiqui and Mustafa Majnoo were ordered. The main accused - Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Shakeel, Anees Ibrahim, Mushtaq Memon, and Tiger Memon - are among the 35 others, who are yet to be brought to book.

At least 257 people were killed and over 700 others injured in the blast. (ANI)
