'Australia can't progress with Johnson in Test side'

Sydney, Sun, 09 Jan 2011 ANI

Sydney, Jan 9(ANI): As Australia looks to rebuild following the humiliating Ashes defeat to England, the first step should be "to move ahead without" fast bowler Mitchell Johnson, according to Herald Sun journalist Jon Anderson.

Speaking on Fox Sports' 'The Last Word', Anderson said that Australia could no longer afford to carry Johnson in the hope that "he will turn up ... because he does not turn up often enough".

"Mitchell Johnson has been absolutely pathetic other than the Test in Perth and for too long he's become a passenger in the Australian side. That's a big thing to say because he's a rare talent when he gets it right, but he doesn't get it right often enough," Anderson said.

"He's let us down too many times ... Mitchell Johnson, to me, say goodbye. Unless he goes back to domestic cricket and consistently bowls well; there's no place for him in the team," he added.

The 29-year-old had picked 15 wickets at an average of 36.93 in four Test matches. (ANI)
