Standard of domestic cricket in Australia has dropped in recent years: Sutherland

Sydney , Tue, 28 Dec 2010 ANI

Sydney, Dec 28(ANI): Cricket Australia (CA) Chief Executive James Sutherland has admitted that the standard of domestic cricket in the country has dropped in recent years.

"There's no doubt Sheffield Shield cricket is different to what it was 10, 15, 20 years ago where Australian players played a lot more Shield cricket," the Age quoted Sutherland, as saying.

"No doubt it was a better standard, there were more international players playing," he added.

However, he maintains that the current standard in Australia is still better than many other ICC member countries.

"There's no doubt Shield cricket is different to what it was, but compared to other countries it is still as strong a domestic competition as anyone," Sutherland said. (ANI)
