Harris out of Ashes series with ankle fracture

Melbourne, Tue, 28 Dec 2010 ANI

Melbourne, Dec 28 (ANI): Australian fast bowler Ryan Harris has suffered a stress fracture in his left ankle and will take no further part in the Ashes series.

Harris, who was one of Australia's heroes with a nine-wicket haul in the third Test in Perth, is set to miss next week's fifth and final Ashes Test in Sydney.

The Queensland quick started limping as he ran in to bowl the fifth ball of his 29th over of England's first innings on Tuesday's third day of play at the MCG.

The 31-year-old limped off the field with the figures of 0-91 and is likely to require surgery; The Sydney Morning Herald quoted team doctor Trefor James, as saying.

"Ryan Harris developed ankle pain during England's first innings and scans have revealed that he has a stress fracture of his left ankle," James said.

"Ryan is likely to require surgery and will consult a specialist in the next 24 hours," he added.

A team spokesman said a decision had not been made yet on whether Harris will bat in Australia's second innings. (ANI)
