Palamu (Jharkhand), Dec.27 (ANI): To provide legal aid at the grassroots level, the government has launched a 'Nyay Rath' (Justice Van) that would visit different villages in Maoist-affected Jharkhand's Palamu District.

The main aim of the 'Nyay Rath' is to provide legal and other information regarding developmental programmes undertaken by the government.

The state's legal services authorities have appointed legal advisors and development officers to man the 'Nyay Rath'.

The initiative was officially launched on December 1.

The villagers thronged to submit their applications in different villages. Over 9000 applications have been recorded. These applications would be forwarded to the concerned state authorities.

Upendra Kumar Singh, a villager, said it would facilitate the speedy redressal of grievances of the poor people who cannot visit city courts.

"Our people are tired of visiting the block courts. But now that the 'Nyay Rath' has come to our village, so it seems that justice will be delivered to us. Our needs will be taken care of and we are very happy that the van has come to our village," said Singh.

Yogeshwar Mani, Additional Judge, Palamu, said many applications have been received from people who are willing to avail the governmental facilities but have so far been unsuccessful in doing so.

"Under the district legal services authority and state legal services authority, it has been ordered to start the 'Lok Adalat' and this 'Lok Adalat' is moving throughout the 24 districts of the State," said Mani.

The initiative will conclude on December 31. By Girija Shankar Ojha(ANI)
