Two arms suppliers to West Bengal Maoists nabbed in Lucknow

Lucknow, Dec 27 (ANI): The Uttar Pradesh police seized arms believed to be meant for Maoist rebels in West Bengal in a raid here on Sunday.

 

Acting on a tip, the STF (Special Task Force) of Uttar Pradesh intercepted a car in which arms were being smuggled.

 

Two arms suppliers were traveling in the car.

 

During the operation, one accomplice of the arms dealers managed to escape, while the police chased and apprehended the other two.

 

"The STF (Special Task Force) of Uttar Pradesh was for some time getting information that from western part of the state an organised gang, with the help of arms dealers of Himachal Pradesh, are smuggling a large quantity of rifles and other ammunitions to anti-national elements in West Bengal state," said A. P. Maheshwari, Inspector General of Police of Uttar Pradesh.

 

Four rifles with 1,000 live bullets, a pistol, 400 live rounds of other guns, 15 ATM cards, and four mobile phones along with a car were seized. (ANI)
