London , Sun, 19 Dec 2010 ANI

London, Dec 19 (ANI): John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono has donated a limited edition commemorative coin featuring the late Beatle to an auction to raise funds for a children's hospital in the star's hometown.

Ono is a patron of Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool and she's backing their fundraising initiative, the Imagine appeal.

The special coin, one of only 5,000, depicting Lennon with long hair and sideburns, as well as his trademark round glasses, will be sold off in June (11).

"This special one-off gold coin, made by the Royal Mint, is being donated to Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool, of which I am a patron," the Daily Star quoted Ono saying.

"This amazing place, one of Europe's biggest and busiest children's hospitals, is very close to my heart and I hope that they can auction this coin and use the proceeds from it to help continue the incredible care and support they provide for children in the North West and all of Europe," she said.
