Advani hits back at PM for parliamentary session washout

New Delhi, Tue, 14 Dec 2010 ANI

New Delhi, Dec 14 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani on Tuesday lashed out at the Congress-led UPA Government for the Winter Session of the Parliament ending without conducting any business.

Addressing media here on the demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the 2G scam, Advani said the government had no credible reason to turn down the opposition's demand.

Cornering the government over the Nira Radia tapes leak issue, Advani said that it seemed that lobbyists were deciding who would be members of the cabinet, not the Prime Minister or Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Dubbing the 2G scam as one of the biggest scam in India, he said: Government has been trying to blame the opposition for wasting of billions of money and a washout of Parliament without any business.

"Washout of the Parliament was triggered by the Government. We tried to end the logjam several times, but the government provided no reason why JPC can't be ordered."

Advani said that the opposition's demand for a JPC was crucial to know who the beneficiaries were.

"Who are the beneficiaries and to who is the government trying to save," he added.

He further said that the extent to which corruption has plagued the UPA Government was very worrying.

"Today, the Congress party is ruling the country in alliance with Karunanidhi's DMK. Tomorrow, it can be any other party, but the issue of corruption needs to be highlighted and justice should prevail," he said.

"We decided today that if we don't get justice in Parliament, then we will go to the streets. We will go to the people. If you don't constitute the JPC, then we don't want to discuss anything else," he said.

Advani also announced plans for a nationwide rally against the Government from December 22. (ANI)
