Bhopal college bans female teachers from wearing western outfits

Bhopal, Dec.10 (ANI): The administration of a college in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal city has banned female teachers from wearing western clothes and the traditional 'salwar-kameez'.

Sarojini Naidu Girls College teachers have been asked to wear only saris on campus as per a circular issued by the college administration.

"Some professors come to college wearing designer salwar, or jeans and kurta. And there should be a difference between students and teachers, and as sari for females is a symbol of Indian dress and culture, therefore in educational institutions, especially in our Nutan College (former name of Sarojini Naidu College), we made it mandatory," said Shobhna Vajpayee Maru, the Principal.

Lakshmi Pandit, a professor, said she is happy with the decision, as she believes teachers should not dress the same way as students.

"There is a personality of a teacher. You are standing wearing anything, or jeans that look vulgar, that is not right. Even students do not respect you as they think. So, this is very important," said Pandit.

Male professors have also been asked to wear only formal clothing on campus. By Ram Chandra Sahu (ANI)
