David Hussey desperately wants to play against England in Ashes

Melbourne, Dec 10 (ANI): Victoria batsman David Hussey, who has a stunning average of 55.18 in 152 first-class games, has said that he desperately wants to play against England during the ongoing Ashes series.

Hussey was the leading scorer in last summer's Sheffield Shield (970 runs at 57.06) for the competition winners, which means his name often comes up in Test discussions.

"I desperately want to play Test cricket, I want to be a part of this Ashes series. Hopefully I get an opportunity to score a few runs against England at the MCG and ... further my case," the AAP quoted Hussey, as saying.

Australia trail 1-0 in the five-match Ashes series after their innings defeat in Adelaide earlier this week.

Victoria will host England in a three-day game at the MCG starting on Friday.

Hussey, who has played 23 one-day internationals and 26 Twenty20 Internationals, is keen to offer one more reminder of his talents before the third Test to be played in his former hometown of Perth.

He said his role has changed for fifth-placed Victoria because of Andrew McDonald's absence with a broken hand.

"Certainly we've been struggling a little bit confidence-wise, and a shocking injury (to McDonald) at a poor time changed my game a bit," Hussey said.

"I've had to change my game a little bit to play a bit more of a team game and bat for a longer period of time. I've been reasonably consistent in getting forties and fifties without cracking a big one," he said.

Hussey said Test selectors shouldn't hold his age against him. (ANI)
