Untraceable Haider's legal team withdraws from UK asylum case

London , Wed, 08 Dec 2010 ANI

London, Dec 8(ANI): Runaway former Pakistan wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider's problems have deepened after his legal team in London decided that they would no longer be representing him in his UK asylum case.

"The reason is simple. We have tried unsuccessfully to get in touch with him for the past few days, left him messages and so on and yet he has not contacted us at all," the Daily Times quoted Natasha Malik, one of the lawyers whose firm was representing Haider, as saying.

"He was supposed to come in for some important meetings pertaining to his asylum case with the UK authorities, but he didn't show up for these meetings and in such circumstances, we see no point in continuing to represent him any longer," she added.

Haider had fled to London last month after allegedly receiving death threats from match-fixers when he was in Dubai for the ODI series between Pakistan and South Africa.

According to reports, the UK authorities are also set to decide on his asylum application this week.

The 24-year-old is currently staying in the UK on a temporary one-month visa, which expires this week. (ANI)
