Vettori blames Kiwi bowlers' profligacy for Jaipur ODI rout against India

Jaipur, Thu, 02 Dec 2010 ANI

Jaipur, Dec 2(ANI): New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori reckons that his bowlers lacked penetration and discipline on a flat batting wicket for Wednesday's second ODI of the five match series against India.

New Zealand lost the match at Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh Stadium by eight-wickets, which sees the tourists go 0-2 down in the series.

Stand-in Indian captain Gautam Gambhir scored an unbeaten 138 from 116 balls, which enabled India to surpass New Zealand's seemingly challenging total of 258-8 with seven overs to spare.

"I was impressed with the way our batters batted, it was a tough wicket early on and it was a competitive score. But I think we bowled extremely poorly in particularly bad areas," Stuff.co.nz quoted Vettori, as saying.

"We gave the Indian batsmen width and if you do that in this part of the world you are going to pay," he added.

It was New Zealand's eighth successive loss from completed matches, their last win coming in the first match of that Sri Lanka tri-series, against India, on August 10.

Earlier, they were beaten 0-4 in a five-match ODI series by Bangladesh in October. (ANI)
