Hormone replacement therapy may boost women's brains

London , Wed, 24 Nov 2010 ANI

London, Nov 24 (ANI): Women who take hormone replacement therapy may be boosting their bodies as well as their brains, suggests a new study.

The therapy is given to women to curb the after-effects of menopause.

A University of Durham study has found those using HRT also slashed years off their 'mental age,' reports the Daily Express.

The left and right sides of the brain worked more closely together during fine motor co-ordination, such as finger tapping in sequence, than women of the same age who were not taking the drugs.

"Sex hormones are powerful in changing the way the brain is organised," said Markus Hausmann.

The study follows research two years ago that found HRT might protect against memory loss and Alzheimer's. (ANI)
