India in drivers seat against New Zealand in Nagpur Test

Nagpur, Nov 20(ANI): Indian batsmen toyed with the New Zealand bowling attack on Sunday to dominate day two of the third Test match being played at Nagpur's Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium.

 

Virender Sehwag smashed 74 off 73 balls, while Gambhir scored 78 off 127 balls to share an opening-wicket partnership of 113, and set a solid platform for India's reply to New Zealand's first innings score of 193.

 

Sehwag, who had scored 173 in the drawn Ahmedabad Test and 96 in the Hyderabad Test, was unlucky to miss another century when he was caught and bowled by New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori.

 

Gambhir then shared a 79-run second-wicket partnership with Rahul Dravid before being dismissed while trying to slash a ball way outside the off-stump off Tim Southee.

 

India were 292 for two when bad light stopped play before the scheduled close of play on day two.

 

Dravid (69 not out) and Sachin Tendulkar (57 not out) were the batsmen on crease sharing an unbeaten 100 run third-wicket partnership.

 

Vettori finished with the figures of 1-101 in 30 overs, while Southee finished with 1-41 in 13 overs.

 

Team India leads New Zealand by 99 runs with eight wickets remaining.
