CA plans to expand T20 Big Bash to reduce financial reliance on India

Sydney, Thu, 18 Nov 2010 ANI

Sydney, Nov 18(ANI): Cricket Australia (CA) Chief Executive James Sutherland has revealed that there are plans to expand the domestic Twenty20 competition to create a new income stream that can reduce the board's financial reliance on India.

"We're very focused on not being overly reliant on one source or another and trying to spread our income and we see opportunities with the Big Bash league," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Sutherland, as saying.

"The value of our television rights of an Indian tour is something like six times what it is for an English tour - our budget for next year is for a profit of about 70-80 million dollars."

"Trying to generate more income is about trying to improve the game so we have the best cricket teams in the world and a game that is more accessible," he added.

The Chief Executive further denied talks that Cricket Australia's financial health is in crisis.

"We're not in crisis, and the ultimate test of our cricket team is what happens over the next seven weeks," Sutherland said.

"That's what it's all about and that's all we're looking forward to - there's nothing to make judgment on right now, it's the contest against England that we're all waiting for," he added. (ANI)
