Adarsh scam: Centre rejects Opposition demand for Joint Parliamentary Committee probe

New Delhi , Wed, 10 Nov 2010 ANI

New Delhi, Nov 10 (ANI): The Central Government on Wednesday rejected the demand of the Opposition for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adarsh Housing Society scam, saying that it has nothing to do with it.

"The Adarsh housing estate is like thousands of housing estates in various states. Government of India has nothing to do (with it)," said Finance Minister Pranab, while addressing the media persons outside the Parliament today.

"Parliament is meant to discuss and debate on issues directly related to government of India... that is the domain of Maharashtra Government. There is an assembly. They will deal in whatever manner they want to do," he added.

Pranab Mukherjee's remarks came in reply to the Opposition demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe.

Commenting on the 2G scam, Mukherjee said: "We have already instituted an inquiry before the MPs demanded."

Earlier today, both Houses of Parliament were adjourned twice today, first for an hour and then for the day, as chaos erupted with Opposition demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the alleged 'large scale corruption and scams' in Commonwealth Games, telecom 2-G Spectrum allocation and Adarsh Housing Society.
