'Worst 48-run over ever' by Nazir costs Pak 'Super Sixes title' as Australia lifts trophy

Hong Kong, Mon, 08 Nov 2010 ANI

Hong Kong, Nov 8 (ANI): Australia clinched the Hong Kong Super Sixes 2010 title by defeating Pakistan by a close margin of two wickets in the finals played at Kowloon Cricket Club Ground in Hong Kong.

David Warner-led Australia smashed 48 runs in the final over to stun the hot favourites, Shoaib Malik-led Pakistan, the Daily Times reported.

In the nail-biting final in which Australia won the toss and chose to field, it all went to the last over of the game, with Pakistan looking certain to lift the trophy as Aussies needed a whopping 44 runs from the final over.

However, Imran Nazir proved to be a wrong choice as he bowled too many wides in the final over, which cost Pakistan dearly as the Aussies overhauled the seemingly impossible target to clinch the title.

Bowling the most brainless over in the history of the tournament, Nazir gave 48 runs, 6 no-balls and 12 wides in his seven deliveries.

Earlier, Pakistan scored 132 runs for a loss of six wickets, with young Ahmed Shahzad hitting 92 off just 28 balls.

Chasing a mountainous task, the Aussies scored 50 runs from the last nine balls- including a massive 48 runs in the last over- and got home with one ball to spare and two wickets in hands. (ANI)
