England may use Swann to test Aussie patience levels during Ashes: Arthur

London , Sun, 31 Oct 2010 ANI

London, Oct 31(ANI): Former South Africa coach Mickey Arthur has advised his Australia counterpart that England may use off-spinner Graeme Swann to frustrate his batsman to commit mistakes during next month's Ashes series.

Arthur had engineered Australia's first home Test series loss since 1992-1993 in 2008.

"When you come to Australia you have to be prepared for your breaking point to be higher than that of the Australian players," Fox Sports quoted Arthur, as saying.

"At any time your patience levels can be tested and at times you have to be prepared to be boring to get a positive result. We used our spinner Paul Harris to be patient and tie up an end and bore Australia ... but then they would get frustrated and bang, suddenly he gets a few wickets quickly."

"England might be able to use Graeme Swann in a similar way to how we used Harris," he added.

The first of the five Ashes Tests will be held at the Gabba in Brisbane from November 25 to 29.

It will be followed by Tests in Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.

The tour also has two Twenty20 internationals and a seven-match ODI series. (ANI)
