Strauss gives license to England cricketers for 'responsible tweets' during Ashes series

London , Fri, 29 Oct 2010 ANI

London, Oct 29(ANI): England players will be allowed to express their thoughts on Twitter during the upcoming Ashes series despite previous controversies over the use of the micro-blogging website.

England players who regularly use Twitter include Kevin Pietersen, James Anderson, Graeme Swann and Stuart Broad.

Pietersen had used the site this year to post an expletive-laden complaint about his omission from the ODI side against Pakistan.

"We like to treat people like adults and a lot of people on our team like using it. We're going to come up with a set of guidelines as to what's best to put on there and what's best not to put on there," News.com.au quoted England captain Andrew Strauss, as saying.

"I think the players recognize they've got a responsibility to their team-mates to make sure that certain stuff stays within the four wall of the dressing room, and I think they're very happy to abide by that," he added.

When asked if he planned to moderate players' tweets himself, Strauss said: "I think it'll be self-policing."

"The tweeter with the most fans can maybe oversee that sort of thing," he added. (ANI)
