Delhi Metro commuters delayed due to signalling problem

New Delhi , Fri, 29 Oct 2010 ANI

New Delhi, Oct.29 (ANI): Thousands of Metro train commuters had to put up with long delay at various stations in the national capital on Friday as trains on the Noida Line were delayed due to a signalling problem.

Trains were run at a restricted speed causing delay for over 30 minutes following their stoppage at every station for more than their stipulated time.

Delhi Metro trains run on an automatic signalling system and if a problem occurs, they are run on a manual signalling system. However, the speed is restricted.

According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials, the problem in signalling system was detected at around 9 a.m., after which trains were run at a restricted speed.

"Efforts are on to rectify the problem as soon as possible. Till then, trains will be run at a restricted speed," said a DMRC spokesman.

Line 3, which connects Dwarka with Noida and Anand Vihar in East Delhi, carries over 6 lakh passengers on a week-day and is the most overcrowded line of the Metro network. (ANI)
