Marching orders to one of Oz selectors will be "a pity": Hilditch

Sydney, Wed, 27 Oct 2010 ANI

Sydney, Oct 27(ANI): Cricket Australia's chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch has said that issuing marching orders to one of his panel members this week will be "a pity".

Cricket Australia is expected to announce on Friday which selector - out of David Boon, Merv Hughes and Jamie Cox - will be axed.

The need to give the marching orders has arisen because of Greg Chappell's recent appointment as the country's first full-time selector, increasing the panel from four to five.

"I know a decision's been made to stick to a four-man panel. I think all the selectors have performed really well. That will be a pity," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Hilditch, as saying.

Hilditch would play a major role in dismissing one of his panel members, as he would make a recommendation to the 14 CA Directors.

"We do performance reviews of selectors, like in any employment situation, and the board is fully appraised of those assessments," Hilditch said.

According to reports, Boon and Cox are under the most pressure because some board members are unhappy with the conflict of interest that surrounds both men.

Cox is South Australia's high-performance manager, while Boon holds an executive role with Tasmanian cricket.

Hughes has also been criticized for running overseas tour group operations while working as touring selector. (ANI)
