New Delhi, Oct.25 (ANI): United States officials here on Monday termed India's plan to sign the Convention on Supplementary Compensation (CSC), as a positive step and said this will enable their companies to begin nuclear commerce with the emerging South Asian giant.
"Signing up to CSC is a very positive step.......it will allow our companies to begin commercial negotiations required for fulfill the promise of the (nuclear) deal," said the U.S. officials here in New Delhi.
The Civil Nuclear Liability law passed by the Indian Parliament this year has felt unappealing to the U.S. firms, which are looking forward to enter the $150 billion market as it makes suppliers liable for damages in case of any nuclear accident.
US officials also said it was normal for India to join international nuclear mainstream but the process is complicated.
They said this referring to India's aspirations of joining the 45-nation Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).
Officials also disclosed that India's participation in the NSG is under discussions but any decision on New Delhi joining the group will be on the consensus of the existing members.
