Top Maoist commander surrenders in Jharkhand

Khunti (Jharkhand), Oct 21 (ANI): A top Maoist commander surrendered before the police on Wednesday in Jharkhand's in Khunti district.

 

Sampat Meena, Deputy Inspector General of Police, said that the surrendered Maoist, Pratap Singh, was a top commander of Bharatiya Communist Party, a banned outfit and was wanted in several criminal cases.

 

"Pratap Singh was wanted since 2008 in three murder cases and burning down of a vehicle," said Meena.

 

After his surrender, Pratap Singh confessed that what he was doing earlier was not justified.

 

He said: "All the activities he was involved in were wrong, and he thought he should surrender to the police.

 

However, in another combing operation, the state police arrested two suspected Maoists and recovered huge cache of explosives in Jiligna and Baridih forests areas of the state.

 

According to reports, about 62 guillotine sticks, 12 boosters, and two empty trunks were recovered from them.

 

A probe has been launched into the matter. (ANI)
