Another Nigerian sprinter fails dope test at CWG

New Delhi , Tue, 12 Oct 2010 ANI

New Delhi, Oct 12 (ANI): Commonwealth Games Federation President Mike Fennell on Tuesday announced that Nigerian sprinter Samuel Okon, who finished sixth in the 110m hurdles final, has been tested positive for the banned stimulant methylhexanamine.

"On anti-doping, we have now conducted 1,200 tests and again I regret to inform you that a second athlete has tested positive. It is Nigerian 110m hurdler Samuel Okon, who tested positive for the same substance (as Oludamola)," said Fennel.

Okon is the second athlete from the African nation to return a positive test. Nigeria's women's 100m gold medal winner Osayemi Oludamola had also tested positive on Monday for the same substance.

"We have already had discussions with the leadership of the Nigerian team, who are themselves taking it very seriously. They are very concerned about it," he added.

Fennell further said a provisional hearing into the matter would be held later on Tuesday. (ANI)
