Sydney, Oct 9 (ANI): Australian cricketers want more leniency to get out of their Twenty20 contracts in order to prepare properly for Test matches.
Cricket Australia blocked Mike Hussey and Doug Bollinger from leaving Chennai Super Kings, despite their right to call players back for international duty even though they are contracted to the T20 franchise.
That left Hussey and Bollinger with only two days to prepare for the Mohali Test, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Bollinger was injured in the match and will now miss the second Test at Bangalore.
"I know both of those players pleaded their cases as much as they could to be able to come and join the international team as soon as possible, (but) they weren't granted that opportunity," said Australian skipper Ricky Ponting.
"I guess in CA's defence the tour did change and we came away a couple of weeks earlier than we were supposed to, and these issues wouldn't have arisen if the programming had stayed the same," he said.
"I had to spell it out to the players when we got here that those guys wanted to be here, because there was a bit of talk around the group as well about how late they could arrive. So I made it really clear that those players wanted to be here and their contractual situation didn't allow that to happen," Ponting added.
Ponting said he hoped CA would show a greater capacity to understand the demands of Test match preparations in the future. (ANI)
