Bangalore, Oct 8(ANI): Australian batsman Mike Hussey has revealed that he had requested Cricket Australia (CA) to excuse him from the Twenty20 Champions League in order to prepare for the Test series against India, but his request was refused, and he was ordered to play for Indian Premier League (IPL) franchisee Chennai Super Kings.
CA holds a 25 per cent stake in the Twenty20 Champions League, therefore it has a vested interest in making its players available for the six million dollar tournament.
"I spoke a lot to Cricket Australia about it, but the decision was that their players were going to be available for the Twenty20 campaign so there was nothing I could really do about it," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Hussey, as saying.
"I put my case forward, but they'd made their decision, and I just had to go along with it really. I'm contracted to Cricket Australia so it's their call."
"I just had to grin and bear it really, get here as quick as I possibly could after the final and just prepare as well as I can," he added.
The 35-year-old further said that he would address the matter with CA Chief Executive James Sutherland and Cricket Operations Manager Michael Brown upon his return from India.
"Scheduling is something we've been talking about a lot to Cricket Australia, and it's getting harder and harder with more and more cricket being played at all the time. And there are players who want to be involved in all three formats of the game, of which I am one," Hussey said.
"You just know it's going to be tough, and you've got to try to do the best you can. But certainly when the time is right I will sit down with James Sutherland and Michael Brown, and go through how I felt and maybe things we could do better next time," he added.
Hussey and teammate Doug Bollinger helped Chennai win the tournament in South Africa, but had just two days time to prepare for the first Test against India in Mohali.
The left-handed batsman struggled to find rhythm in both his innings. He scored 17 in the first innings and 28 in the second. (ANI)
