Cycling Australia to take action against athlete for two-finger salute to CWG officials

New Delhi, Oct 7 (ANI): Another Australian athlete has been disqualified for his two-fingered salute at officials at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Australian track cyclist Shane Perkins joined wrestler Hassene Fkiri, who was disqualified for making obscene gestures and unsporting behaviour during the gold-medal bout.

Cycling Australia is all set to take action against Perkins for an angry two-fingered salute at officials, who cited him for dangerous riding in the semi-final and disqualified him from the gold medal ride-off.

"We are disappointed with what Shane did, and the gesture, and we don't believe it's acceptable. We have put steps in place to deal with that in-house as well," sprint coach Gary West said.

"Growing up, we are all taught to accept the umpire's decision, and we need to live and die by that," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted him, as saying.

Perkins, 23, lost his Australian Institute of Sport scholarship some years ago for drunken behaviour, but has recently been celebrated as a reformed man.

After winning his first heat easily, Perkins entered round two of his pet event as a favourite for the gold. But after he won the semi-final, judges ruled that Perkins had contributed to a crash, and disqualified him from the medal race.

Perkins easily won the race for seventh to 12th places, then gestured at officials in defiance - once as he finished the race and again after his victory lap.

He withdrew from his post-race media commitments, leaving West to explain his actions. (ANI)
