Oz concerned Twenty20's power risking player burnout following Bollinger's injury

Sydney, Oct 6 (ANI): Australia is concerned that Twenty20's increasing power over player management decisions may have cost them the Mohali Test match.

Ricky Ponting was not able to use his best bowler, as Bollinger suffered an abdominal strain before lunch on the final day.

Bollinger joined the team just three days before the start of the Test, as he was playing in the Champions League in South Africa.

He is now in doubt for the second Test at Bangalore commencing on Saturday.

"It probably doesn't help. But he'd been bowling, and that's one positive for Doug that he'd been playing competitive cricket," said Ponting of Bollinger's T20 duty.

"He probably hasn't been bowling the amount of overs in the Champions League that some of the others have had coming over here, but the facts are that he's been playing, he arrived a couple of days before the game," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Ponting, as saying.

"I thought his work before that was very good, I thought his spell today was probably the best he's bowled during the game, so disappointing for him to go down at the end there, it hurt us a lot," he said.

Having dismissed Sachin Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh in a pre-lunch spell, Bollinger looked in better form than the rest of the Australian attack.

But when Ponting went to collect Bollinger's cap for another over, he received the bad news.

"I actually had him ready to bowl the next over. I went to grab his hat off him for the start of his next over and he said he'd felt that he had some pain in one of his abdominals, and being a fast bowler and having that sort of injury I just sent him off the ground straight away," Ponting said.

Apart from Bollinger, another Champions League participant Mike Hussey lacked fluency with the bat. (ANI)
