Sydney, Oct 5 (ANI): A survey has revealed that almost one third of Australians, who have mobile phones with Internet connections, even use it while they are on the toilet.

The survey by telcom company Telstra on 2800 Australians aged over 18 found that 36 percent of mobile phone users own one with internet access. ccording to Telstra spokeswoman Rebekah O'Flaherty, demand for the technology, otherwise known as smartphones, has soared in the past 12 months, making them the preferred way of accessing certain online content.

"Almost one in four smartphone owners visit social networking sites like Facebook on their mobiles more than on a computer," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted her as saying in a statement.

"Surprisingly, we also found around 10 percent are more likely to do their online banking from their phone than on their PC," she stated.

Of those surveyed, more than half admitted using smartphones in bed, one percent admitted to doing so regularly, and one in five drivers admitted to surfing the web on smartphones while driving, which is illegal.

O'Flaherty also added that the phones are not only popular among generation Y users, as almost one in five smartphone owners are aged over 50, while 41 percent are aged over 40. (ANI)
