Lahore, Oct 5 (ANI): Pakistan's Test skipper Salman Butt and teenage pacer Mohammad Aamir, two of the three Pakistani players suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC), have requested the ICC to hold the hearings of their appeals in Qatar instead of London.
According to sources, Butt's lawyer Khalid Ranjha and Aamir's lawyer Shahid Karim expressed some reservations over holding the hearings in London, as the local media there had been playing a negative role against the players, the Dawn reported.
Subsequently, the two lawyers requested the ICC to conduct the hearing at any venue other than London to ensure the smooth progress of the case.
Earlier, it had been reported that the ICC had selected London as venue for hearing in the last week of October, as the entry of Mohammad Asif, the third player among the tainted trio, in Dubai is banned.
In 2008, on his way back to Pakistan after a stint in the Indian Premier League, Asif was detained at the Dubai International airport for possessing a banned drug. He was detained for 19 days, after which the police deported him, as they found the quantity of the banned drug "insufficient" for pursuing a case against him.
Meanwhile, Aamir's lawyer has also requested the ICC to set an early date of hearing his appeal against the provisional suspension, reasoning that his client will not able to represent his country in international cricket until the ban is revoked.
The ICC had suspended Salman, Aamir and Asif under its anti-corruption code after they were accused of being involved with bookies in a fixing scam during Pakistan's tour of England this year. (ANI)
