Wellington, Oct 4 (ANI): New Zealand's netball team racked up 102 goals in beating Papua New Guinea 102-21 on Monday in their Commonwealth Games opener in Delhi.
The Silver Ferns have taken no time to get into top gear at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, destroying Papua New Guinea 102-21 in their opening match.
The Ferns led 57-12 at halftime and only let in nine goals in the entire second half.
The result resembled more closely a cricket score than netball.
Earlier, New Zealand captain Casey Williams had said that there is no chance they will ease up on their opponents.
"We're definitely not pulling back. You use those games to build up for the big ones and it's time for us to try new things, but we need to prepare the same as if we were playing Australia. We go into the game with the same mindset pretty much," she said.
Williams has won Commonwealth Games gold before, as a member of the team that won in Melbourne four years ago.
"It's a little bit different. The 2006 Games, I was the baby in the team doing my own job. Things have changed quite a bit since then. I'm now a leader, but I'm still the same person," Williams said.
Their next match is against the Cook Islands on Tuesday. (ANI)
