Lahore, Oct 3 (ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly holding talks with the International Cricket Council (ICC), wanting it to conduct its preliminary hearing into the provisional suspensions on the tainted trio, Salman Butt, Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif, before the series against South Africa starting from October 26.
"The PCB chairman has been in talks with the ICC and wants it to hold the preliminary hearing into the provisional suspensions on the three players by mid October," the Daily Times quoted a source close to the board, as saying.
"The PCB chairman held talks with Scotland Yard officials in London to find out if there were any criminal charges being pressed against the three players," the source added.
The Scotland Yard, who has been investigating allegations of spot-fixing against the trio, has already sent its file to the crown prosecutor's office.
"The prosecutor's office will decide whether there should be criminal charges against the players or they should be cleared," the source disclosed.
"If there are no criminal charges, then the PCB would be keen to get the players' names cleared as soon as possible," he added.
Another source revealed, "The PCB does not want this issue to linger and wants to know whether the trio can be available for the South Africa series or not."
Earlier, Pakistan's incumbent chief selector Mohsin Khan had admitted that it would be "really tough" for the selectors to find replacements of the trio if they were ruled out of the assignment for the upcoming series against South Africa.
"They are three of our key players and will be in the squad if cleared to play in the forthcoming series," he said, adding, "It will be really tough for us to find their replacement in case they are not available to play against South Africa." (ANI)
