Sydney, Oct 3 (ANI): Highest wicket taker in ODIs and Test cricket Muttiah Muralitharan has been included in the Sri Lanka squad for the limited-overs tour of Australia.
The off-spinner, who retired from Test cricket in July after taking 800 wickets in the longest form of the game, was included in the 16-man team, which will play one Twenty20 international, and three one-dayers next month.
Muralitharan has already indicated that he intends to play for his country at next year's World Cup and add to his record 515 one-day scalps, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Murali has not played international cricket since July but was part of the Chennai side that recently won the Champions League Twenty20 tournament in South Africa.
"Muralitharan is definitely part of our World Cup plans and we have included him to give him some international exposure ahead of the big event," said chairman of selectors Aravinda De Silva.
There is also a quintet of pacemen in the party with Lasith Malinga, Dilhara Fernando, Nuwan Kulasekara, Dammika Prasad and Thisara Perera all named.
All-rounder Angelo Mathews' selection is subject to fitness as he recovers from a strained left thigh muscle. Thilina Kandamby has been put on standby. (ANI)
