New Delhi, Oct 3(ANI): World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Director General David Howman has said that some drug cheats may avoid detection at the Delhi Commonwealth Games.
WADA officials are in the Indian capital to monitor the drug-testing programme, which is to be carried out by the Commonwealth Games Federation.
It is expected that between 1500 and 2000 tests will take place during the course of the October 3-14 Games.
"Can I sit here and say there is going to be a ... clean Commonwealth Games - that would be very dumb of me to do that. I can't do that, nor should I be asked to do that," Stuff.co.nz quoted Howman, as saying.What I can do is say that the anti-doping program here will be a good one. Will there be athletes here who have got away with it? Possibly," he added.
Howman further said that at this early stage, he is satisfied with the process.
"All I can say is that the system that ran at the last Commonwealth Games in Melbourne was subject to a similar monitoring programme from WADA. There was a report written and there were a couple of suggestions made to alter the programme and those alterations have been made," Howman said.
"As we sit here, we are content with what's in place. We are yet to see it in practice of course and that's what the monitoring is about - watching the practice. The system, the process and the rules are all okay," he added. (ANI)
