Queen's Baton goes to Gurudwara Rakab Ganj

New Delhi, Oct.2 (ANI): The Queen's Baton for the XIXth Commonwealth Games 2010 was carried to the famous Gurudwara Rakab Ganj here on Saturday.

 

Hundreds of students and locals gathered at the gurudwara and to cheer the arrival of the Queen's Baton.

 

State Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely and Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur were also present at the event.

 

Kaur said that she felt honoured to have welcomed the Baton.

 

"I am feeling very happy that today the Queen's Baton that symbolises Commonwealth Games was brought here in the gurudwara and I was able to welcome it," said Kaur.

 

School children were seen holding banners with the Games' slogan 'Come Out and Play'.

 

A school band also welcomed the baton by playing many tunes even as scores of students gathered to witness the arrival of the baton.

 

The Queen's Baton would also stop at Sacred Heart Cathedral and at the Railway Museum and several other tourist spots before it ends its journey at the main Commonwealth Games venue, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

 

The Commonwealth Games will take place in the Delhi from October 3 and will conclude on October 14. (ANI)
