Lahore, Sep 26 (ANI): In the wake of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt's match throwing allegations against the English players, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has demanded not only an unreserved apology, but also financial compensation from the board.
The ECB has put strict conditions before the PCB, asking for an apology from both Butt and the board for levelling match-fixing charges on the England cricket team, and dictating the exact words that apology should comprise, the Dawn reported.
The ECB also demanded that the PCB should pay the legal costs of the case, in addition to a substantial amount to each member of the England cricket team for damages caused to them due to the 'baseless' accusation.
Sources said the PCB chairman was certainly not expecting such harsh reaction from the ECB, as he had already tried to clarify the basis of his statement, saying that he had not accused the England players of throwing the game but that was what the bookies had been saying.
However, the ECB did not accept Ijaz's clarification and sent a legal notice to the PCB, which has decided to respond to the legal notice through its England-based lawyers, Addleshaw Goddard. (ANI)
