New Delhi, Sep. 25 (ANI): Authorities deployed thousands of paramilitary personnel and commandos to beef up security around the Commonwealth Games venues as athletes from various countries start coming in for the Games.
Paramilitary troops and heavily armed commandoes had cast a tight security net around the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium on Friday.
Meanwhile, US Ambassador to India, Timothy Roemer, gave approval to the general security environment saying he had been travelling across the country without feeling unsafe.
"I have been all over to Hyderabad and Chennai, to Rishikesh, to Tiger Park, to deer parks to great Agra to see the Taj Mahal. My family and I felt very safe we feel like this is one of the most beautiful and heart warming countries in the world and we will continue to travel," said Roemer.
Several countries had raised concern over the preparedness of the venues after reports of hygiene issues, a dengue outbreak and security incidents in the lead up to the event which kicks off in nine days.
However, on Friday, things seemed to be turning the corner with first wave of athletes from England arriving to participate in India's biggest sporting event since the 1982 Asian Games. (ANI)
