Sydney, Sep 23 (ANI): South Australia released young pacer Peter George to join the national squad for their two-Test series with India.
The uncapped George has been with the Redbacks squad at the Champion League tournament in South Africa, but is now headed for the Australian team base in Chandigarh in time to be considered for the only warm-up match against a Board President's XI from Saturday.
Following the withdrawal of NSW quick Josh Hazlewood due to stress fractures, it was feared that Australia may not have a full squad to pick from until George and his fellow back-up James Pattinson from Victoria finished up in the T20 tournament.
However, George's early exit from SA's squad was made easier by a settled Redbacks line-up progressing to the semi-finals, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
"Our program is about producing Australian players as well as team success," said SA coach Mark Sorell.
George was previously drafted into the Australian Test squad for the tour of New Zealand earlier this year, and was said to have made a decent impression in the nets and around the squad.
The Australian squad continues to train in Chandigarh in order to be ready for the first Test at Mohali from October 1-5. (ANI)
