Lahore, Sep 23 (ANI): The Lahore High Court has dismissed a petition against Pakistani cricket players allegedly involved in the spot-fixing, as none of them have been proved to be guilty so far.
A local citizen- Shakil Ahmad- had moved the petition, pleading the court to initiate proceedings against the 'spot-fixers' on high treason charges, under Article 6 of the constitution, the Daily Times reported.
Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) counsel Tufezal H Rizvi submitted that a permanent ban could not be imposed on any player because no allegations had been proved so far against any of them.
On the basis of mere allegations, action could not be taken against the cricketers, Rizvi said, urging the court to dismiss the petition.
Petitioner counsel Chaudhry Ishtiaq Ahmad sought time to file some documents in support of the petition, but the Chief Justice turned down his request, stating that almost fifteen days had been given to the petitioner's counsel to present his arguments and a file rejoinder in reply to the federal sports secretary, but he failed to comply with the court order in this regard.
The petitioner-Ahmad- said that under Article 5 of the constitution, every Pakistani citizen should express his allegiance to the country, but since the players- Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal, Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Amir- had violated this constitutional provision by indulging in spot-fixing, they should be arrested, tried and punished.
