New Delhi, Sep 23 (ANI): Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday said the Indian economy will post a better growth rate than the 8.75 per cent in the current fiscal as projected by the 'Economic Survey'.
"I am optimistic that at the end of this year we will be able to surpass our GDP growth forecast of 8.5-8.75 per cent given in the Economic Survey," said a confident Mukherjee, while speaking at a function on Indo-German Industrial and Economic cooperation here today.
Indian economic growth slowed down to 6.7 per cent in 2008-09 from nine per cent in the previous three years due to the outcome of the global financial crisis.
Government provided stimulus to the economy by cutting taxes and stepping up public expenditure in an attempt to reduce the impact of the global crisis.
Indian economy expanded by 8.8 per cent in the first quarter of the current fiscal year in comparison to six per cent a year ago. (ANI)
